101 ESPN Adds Dan McLaughlin To The Opening Drive

Hubbard Sports “101 ESPN” WXOS East St. Louis IL has announced the addition of former St. Louis Cardinals television play-by-play voice Dan McLaughlin to its “Opening Drive” morning show, while Carey Davis moves to afternoons.

McLaughlin will join Randy Karraker and Brooke Grimsley a few days each week. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch quotes McLaughlin this morning as stating on-air, “”I’ll be with you for a few days, not all the days, but a few days every week coming in with you and Brooke. The station has been great to me. … When you guys approached me about doing this, I thought about it and it didn’t take long. But I thought this makes a lot of sense. … For me to come in a few days a week and hang out with your guys is a lot of fun for me.”

McLaughlin, who was fired as television play-by-pay voice of the Cardinals in December 2022 following his third DWI arrest. He previously hosted a weekly one hour show on WXOS in 2020 and 2021.

The addition of McLaughlin to “The Opening Drive” allows the station to shift Carey Davis to the afternoon “Fast Lane” from 2-6pm. A former NFL fullback from St. Louis, Davis joined WXOS in September 2022. He will now be paired with Anthony Stalter and Jaime Rivers. The Post-Dispatch notes that because Rivers is now also serving as television analyst for the NHL’s St. Louis Blues, he is currently missing many shows.
